Travel Photo Thursday — 09/18/14 — Night Time Prague

Posted by on Sep 18, 2014 in Czech - Prague, Featured, Travel Photo Thursday | 26 comments

Welcome to week 194! My apologies for this post being late and somewhat brief. My ongoing Internet problems became a huge issue this week. I had to call in the telephone company not once but twice. The first technician put a cable in the wrong outlet, and made things worse. It took a second technician, more than 24 hours later, to fix the problem. Isn’t it amazing how something that sounds so simple, a cable in the wrong outlet, can cause an entire system to go down! I’ve been going through some photo files this week, and have enjoyed perusing a number of night shots of Prague from the banks of the Vitava River. I usually don’t do justice to night shots, but these shots I do like.

To join in the Travel Photo Thursday fun simply post a photo on your blog.

  1. Technical difficulties are the pits Nancie. I’ve been sitting up waiting for your post before I go to bed. I think I will be dreaming of Prague tonight. Lovely photos and no I have not been. I am not good with night shots either Nancie, but these are great. I love the first one – so clear. What is the building?

    • Hi Jan! What a sweetie, thanks for waiting up. That is the Prague Castle. Sweet dreams my friend 🙂

  2. Lovely photos, especially the one with the Prague Castle.

    • Thank you! Nice shots are not really my thing, but I was happy with how these turned out.

  3. Very much on my travel list, what gorgeous shots you got!

    • Hi Jess, and thanks. You will never regret a trip to Prague!

  4. Spotty internet is one thing when you’re traveling but a real disappointment when you’re actually at home. I’ve never been to Prague. Your night photos really make the town seem so atmospheric and moody (in a good way). I like how the uplighting really makes the buildings stand out against the deep blue night sky.

    • Hi Michele. Yes, it is a pain and especially when I live in the most wired country in the world.

  5. Beautiful photos! I’ve never been to Prague, but i love cities at night. The darkness seems to hide all the grime! Hope you get your internet sorted soon – it’s so frustrating when technology goes wrong.

    • Hi Molly. Yes, seems to be okay now (touch wood) 🙂 Prague is a beautiful city, day or night.

  6. Hi Nancie, sorry to hear about your internet issues. I can feel you pain.
I love the gorgeous night scenes of Ptsgue. Your photos are so atmospheric and captured the beauty of Prague at night. Really lovely night shots, Nancie.

    • Hi Marisol! I’m so glad you enjoyed them. It’s been a while since I was in Prague, so I really had a fun time going through and choosing the ones to post here.

  7. Isn’t it amazing how both travel and technology glitches can impact blogging! I’ve been on the road this week and didn’t get to visit all my fellow ‘linkers’ on BTS last week and it just doesn’t feel right when I don’t get to check in on friends and their travels! Beautiful shots, Nancie. . .nighttime is difficult and these are stunning.

    • Hi Jackie! Thanks for your kind words. Glad to see you back on line this week!

  8. I’ve not been to Prague, but it’s on my list! I love photographing cities at night – they feel so different from their daytime attitudes! Sorry about the tech problems – to my mind there is nothing worse as technology is supposed to be there to help you, not cause even more problems!

    • Hi Cindy. True, nighttime atmosphere/attitude is so different. I need to spend more time learning about night photography.

  9. Sorry to hear about your Internet problems. I hope things are better this week. We loved Prague at night last year especially when there were less tourists and the temperature was cooler. Beautiful night shots and you’re right, it’s hard to fully capture its beauty in photos.

    • Hi Mary. Although, I was in Prague in the summer, it wasn’t all that hot. I had a fair bit of rain at night, and this was one of the few clear nights I had to get down by the river.

  10. Oh, Nancie, I do empathize. It must have been quite annoying but am glad it’s sorted out now.
Love your photos – night shots are indeed tricky but you’ve done a fantastic job. From what I’ve seen in photos – yours and others – Prague is a beautiful city.
    Thanks for the tour!

    • Hi Marcia! So much of Europe is photogenic, and Prague just seems to have something extra to offer!

  11. I haven’t been to Prague but it is on a long list of must see places. After seeing your stunning photos I think this will be sooner rather than later!

    • Hi Kathy. Go for it! You won’t be disappointed.

  12. Nancie, I love Prague…and your photos are gorgeous!

    • Hi Corinne! Thanks! I would love to go back, and spend more time there.

  13. Alas, when I was in Prague back in 2009 the weather was mostly overcast and not that great for shooting during the day let alone at night,, so I wasn’t able to capture any night scenes as you’ve done.

    • Hi Dick. The weather in Prague can be a challenge. This was one of only a couple of clear night that I had during the month I was there.
