Egypt for Travel Back Saturday

Posted by on Nov 30, 2014 in Destinations, Egypt, Travel Back Saturday, Travel Photogrphy | 20 comments

The winter of 2004 saw me ticking off a major bucket list travel destination…EGYPT. Cashing in all of my frequent flyer points, and then some, I flew Singapore Air Business Class. I have never felt so special on an airplane, and I would do that flight all over again, without a moments hesitation. The Cairo Museum, the Sphinx, the Pyramids, and Luxor are just a few of the high moments of my trip. Here are a few of my favorite photos from that adventure.

The Sphinx dwarfed by the Pyramids. They are BIG…

I hope you enjoyed week three of Travel Back Saturday. If you have a photo that you’d like to dust off and have featured on Travel Back Saturday, please shoot me an email at nanciemckinnon at Gmail dot Com. I’d be happy to feature your shot along with a brief description and a link back to your site.

Is Egypt on your bucket list, or have you been?

  1. Luxor looks interesting, not that I am overlooking the amazing Pyramids and Sphinx. I think they would have to be seen to be believed. We have not been so loved seeing your photos. I remember your other post on Egypt as well.

    • Hi Jan,

I loved Luxor, and wanted more time there. I don’t usually take a tour, but I did do a 10 day tour there, because there were things that I wanted to do that would have been difficult to pull off traveling solo. Of course, one of the downsides of a tour are the time constraints.

  2. Nancie…Who doesn’t love the Sphinx…gorgeous! And look at those blue skies. Such great memories. Thanks again for linking up with #WkendTravelInspiration!

    • Hi Corrine! You are so right. It’s an awesome statue, and I could have stayed there all day gawking at it. As it was, that day I was lucky. For some weird reason it wasn’t very crowded.

  3. Funny you should ask about Egypt. . .I’ll answer the question in an upcoming blog post. Love this Travel Back Saturday feature, Nancie!

    • Hi Jackie. I’m glad you’re enjoying it. Going back through my photos is amazing. Some of the shots I’m finding need to see the light of day! Of course, there are also shots that I can’t remember where I took them…(haha).

  4. PS…Jackie…Is there a trip to Egypt in your immediate future???? How long are you going to keep me in suspense? 🙂

  5. I have heard that one of the seven wonders of the world – the Egyptian Pyramids are a must see. I have also been told that a cruise down the Nile is great as well. I guess I have been a little hesitant to travel to the Middle East but do find it very fascinating. Thanks for bringing these wonderful photos to me.

    • Hi Kathy. A cruise down the Nile is a must do. I did it in a traditional Egyptian craft…the Feluca. There is a photo of our captain on my FB page, playing a traditional instrument.

  6. Business class on Singapore Airlines must have been incredible. I’d really love to see the pyramids some day. My hubby went as a kid and now has no desire to return. I’ll work on him, though.

    • Hi Michele. Singapore Air was amazing. I can’t imagine not wanting to go back to Egypt. 🙂

  7. The only time I saw a sunset over the Luxor was in Las Vegas, Nevada. What a great trip you enjoyed and can’t wait to see those sunsets for myself.

    • haha Neva. I do hope you get to the real Luxor one of these days. It is so worth the trip.

  8. Luxor looks fascinating, but so too the Pyramids and the Sphinx for someone who hasn’t visited Egypt. Thanks for sharing your evocative photos. Places for my bucket list for sure 🙂

    • Hi Johanna. Egypt is one of those places that I feel everyone should visit. I would go back in a heart beat, except there are so many other places that I haven’t seen yet!

  9. Nice post. The pictures are breathtaking. Amazing story and location.

    • Hi Jess and Brandon. Thanks for the visit. I’m glad you enjoyed the photos.

  10. I haven’t seen Egypt, but I’m planning to do it very soon. Your photos are very convincing. Reading about your Singapore Business Class experience, I was wondering if it was better than Business Class in other airlines. I’ve heard other people praising Singapore Airlines.

    • Hi Anda, I’ve been fortunate enough to fly business class a few time with a few airlines, and Singapore Air (imo) is way ahead of the rest. I guess though I have to remember that I flew them in 2004, and things do change. I’d still take my chances with them 🙂

  11. Hi Nancy, I was googling Egypt and found your pics…love them! So I am pretty fearless when it comes to traveling but my girlfriend is very leery of Egypt, Middle East, etc. So did you take a tour group when you were there or did you wing it?
I know you did this 2 years ago but I was hoping to go next year with Darcee but she said she would rather go with a tour group
