Travel Photo Thursday — May 15/14 — Summer Travel Dreams

Posted by on May 15, 2014 in Destinations, Malaysia, Travel Photo Thursday | 35 comments

Here we are for the 177th week of Travel Photo Thursday. Between looking after my students, all 200 plus of them, and trying to keep the site up and running, I am determined to get this post live before Friday rolls around! Summer vacation is still a dream right now, and I have no idea what I’ll be doing. I’m pretty sure that Nova Scotia is not in the cards. Since I spent last winter in Chiang Mai, I really want to wile my summer break in a different locale. That’s got me thinking of maybe a beach holiday, and just enjoying the surf and sun for at least a few weeks, maybe longer. A few years ago I spent some time on the Malaysian island of Langawai. I love the beaches,  the food, and island’s laid back atmosphere. I’m thinking maybe that’s where I’ll head off to for a few weeks, maybe a month. I’m sharing with you a  couple of my favorite photos from my last visit.

To join in the Travel Photo Thursday fun simply post a photo on your blog.

Return here and place your link in the Mr. Linky at the bottom of this post.

Please post a link to a post featuring a travel photo, not simply a link to your blog.

Sunset on Cenang Beach… one of the most awesome sunsets I have ever encountered in Asia!

Langkawi Sunset

Same beach! What a difference a day makes!

What a Difference a Day Makes

My favorite daytime shot of this beach. I am a sucker for white sand 🙂

Cenang Beach, Langawai, Malaysia

Whether this trip will become a reality or not I don’t know. However, I do remember the very cheap flight I was able to snag last time. I remember my flight was under $50. bucks. I can’t imagine I’ll get that lucky again! My hotel was a good price and food was cheap! Stay tuned!

  1. Gorgeous photos from your last trip Nancie. I’m sure whatever you end up doing this summer you’ll have great fun and we’ll all get to enjoy it vicariously through your blog posts later! Come to Lou messugo in the south of France one day!

    • Hi Phoebe! I would love to come to the south of France. You just might see me one of these days 🙂

  2. Oh good heavens, Nancie! Those beach photos nearly knocked me off my chair in this early morning hour in Kirkland. Wow! I can see why you are wanting to return. Good luck with the airfare (try and keep us posted on where you end up going.

    • Hi Jackie! Pick yourself up and brush yourself off! 🙂 Yes, I have to start looking for an airfare this weekend. Although, still waiting on some answers from work before I can really commit to a ticket. Fingers crossed that I will get answers soon!

  3. Where to go? Don’t you love it when that’s the tough decision you have to make. That island sounds lovely, looks lovely and what an affordable way to spend a vacation.
This summer I’m heading from Newfoundland to the Yukon to finish my book.

    • Ha Ha Leigh! You are so right. A tough decision like this I could handle everyday. I’ve love Newfoundland. Have never been to the Yukon, but would love to go someday.

  4. Enjoy the summer and relax. Stay in touch. Let me know if you are in this area!

    • Hi John! I’m so glad you found your way here. If I do make it home, I will definitely let you know. It would be lovely to catch up.

  5. Wow! No wonder you want to go back there. I’m a sucker for any kind of beach – but those look incredible. Enjoy whatever trip you take – looking forward to reading all about it!

    • Hi Molly! Yeah, beaches are in my blood, too. I’m sitting here imagining my toes in the sand!

  6. You just never know with sunsets do you. That first one may be the best sunset photo ever! One day recently my camera battery died when I was on my daily walk. Of course that particular day there was a spectacular sunset. The next day, with my Camera at the ready, the sunset was not even worth a photo. I love the tree in the final photo. Go the Beach!

    • Hi Jan! How many times has my camera failed me? I know that feeling. I really think that I am going to end up at the beach 🙂

  7. These pictures look so relaxing! That sunset is amazing! I hope you get to a relaxing beach this summer, Nancie. You certainly deserve it.

    • Hi Mary! This is definitely one of my favorite sunset shots, and I’ve taken more than a few over the years 🙂

  8. Lovely scenes, Nancie. All the best for more holidays like that!

    • Hi Andrew! Thanks for dropping by. Hopefully, this summer will see me lazing at the beach!

  9. OMgosh, those are gorgeous shots! I’m not a beachy person, but please those are calling!

    • Hi Corrine! Yes, I think even someone who is not keen on the beach would have a difficult time resisting a walk at sunset!

  10. Langkawi is less than a 1 hour flight or a mere 3 hours by ferry away from me, and yet, I’ve never been. I think it’s because it’s not radically different from where I am. That makes me lucky, I guess! That sunset is indeed incredible, and I would have expected a palm tree on the beach but not the kind that you photographed.

    • Hi Michele! The beaches in Penang are so great, plus all the great food. I didn’t expect that tree in the middle of the beach, either.

  11. Oh my, what a beautiful sunset! I can see why you want to return. Fingers crossed you can snag an attractive flight and that prices are still relatively low.
One more island to add to my list!
PS: Glad you’re back up, Nancie.

    • Hi Marcia, Keeping this blog alive this month has been difficult. I think I solved the problem with another spam plug-in.That seems to have done the trick (touch wood). I hope you make it to Langkawai one of these days!

  12. What an incredibly beautiful set of photos. You aren’t kidding when you say what a difference a day makes it looks like a completely different place all together! I like the daytime shot as well!

    • Thanks Anwar! I was amazed at how the two sunsets were so different.

  13. I too am a fan of white sand beaches and your photo is a beauty. They’re not that easy to photograph given the glare of the sand and sun but do bring back so many great memories it’s worth persevering.

    • Thanks so much. Love the sun, but it can be a pain when your trying to take a photo.

  14. Beautiful photos. Langawai looks fantastic. Good luck with arrangements,

    • Hi Donna. Thanks, I have to get onto making the arrangements this weekend. The only glitch is that I’m not sure what date I can leave.

  15. Do we get to vote? Those sunsets certainly look inviting when the weather turns chilly at home.

Interesting how you rarely see any beautiful sunrises, but then I like to sleep late in the mornings past any sunrises (yawn).

    • Ha Ha, Neva! Of course you do. Sometimes I have to drag myself out in the morning, but is is usually so worth it.

  16. That Cenang Beach sunset photo is magnificent!

    • Hi there! I was SO happy with it. Definitely one of my all time favorites!

  17. I had no idea that you are a teacher. I was for 17 years. We could talk for a week 🙂 I LOVE the last photo of the lone tree – the colors are so pretty!

    • Hi Michelle. Yes, I’ve been teaching for the past 13 years. 🙂

  18. I, too, love beaches! Almost all of my favourite places are islands. The good thing is there are so many great places we’ll never run out of places to go …
