Today, November 15, 2010, is the launch of Passports with Purpose annual fundraiser. The brains and hearts behind this annual event are Seattle area travel bloggers Michelle Duffy, Debbie Dubrow, Pam Mandel and Beth Whitman. Bloggers in the travel community support people and communities in the developing world who need our assistance. Donations, totaling $30,000, raised in last years fundraiser were used to build a school in rural Cambodia. You can read more about the school here
Through this blog, Budget Travelers Sandbox, I am thrilled to be a sponsor and participant in the 2010 fundraiser. This year Passports with Purpose will build an entire village in South India for the Dalits. They are one of India’s most neglected class of citizens. The goal is to raise $50,000.
Here’s how it works. BTS is donating Amazon’s best selling Kindle E-Book reader, latest generation with built-in Wi-Fi. All of the prizes are listed over at the Passport With Purpose raffle site. Donate $10.00 and you’ll receive a virtual raffle ticket. You can use your ticket to try and win any of the awesome prizes that have been donated.
Here’s what the reviewers are saying about the latest generation Kindle E-Book reader….
“Amazon’s newest Kindle is the best ebook-reading device on the market. It’s better than the Apple iPad, the Barnes & Noble Nook, the various Sony readers…” – Fast Company”
“What’s clear, however, is that if you’re looking for a standalone e-reader (i.e., a portable replacement for physical books), this is the go-to, standard-setting device.” – Engadget
“Its solid build quality, along with its improved design, integrated store, and cross-platform transportability… all add up to a winner that shoots to the head of the pack.” – PC World
“Simply put, it’s the best dedicated ebook reader you can buy… Amazon has managed to increase the contrast on the Kindle in a way that sets it above the Nook, Sony Readers, or any other dedicated ebook reader we’ve tested.” – PC Magazine
You can learn more about this great prize over at Amazon.
Head on over to Passport With Purpose to browse through the awesome prize list. Purchase your raffle tickets via Paypal, and you have an opportunity to win a prize, while supporting a worthy cause.
