Wherever you are in the world, this week I want to wish you and yours the best of the holiday season. Welcome to week 307 (22/12/2016) of Travel Photo Thursday. Who says that Asia doesn’t do Christmas? When I arrived almost 16 years ago, that was the case. These days, throughout Asia, you’ll find beautiful lights and displays celebrating the season. Enjoy a few of the photos that I have taken from Christmas’s past.

Bangkok’s Emporium knows how to dress for Christmas. The picture perfect trees change colors as the Christmas music plays. With the temps hovering close to 30C you need to pinch yourself to convince yourself that it is Christmas (or at least I do!)
Inside you’ll find Frosty and Santa dressed in their finest sparkles. It wouldn’t be Aisa without a few pandas sporting stocking hats.
Isn’t this the best Frosty, yet? !!
Finally, we have Hua Hin all decked out on Christmas Eve. You can even sing a few of your favorite Christmas carols. No winter coats or snow boots necessary 🙂
Christmas, Seoul 2016
As always, I have been busy with the end of semester exams and marking, so not much time to enjoy the Christmas decorations in Seoul. However, I did manage to catch this lovely tree on my home the other day.
It dawned on me as I was finishing up this post that this is the first Christmas I’ve ever spent with the beautiful Indy. She says Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays to you all!

I usually spend Christmas at home in Townsville, but this year I’m spending it at our new home in Coolum Beach. I hope you enjoy your first Christmas with Indy!

I didn’t realize you’ve been an expat for that long. I like the idea of that color changing tree in Bangkok. It must be a fun sight in person. I remember how much Hong Kong dressed itself up for Christmas, especially the massive, conical tree made of stacked Ferrero Rocher candies that was on display in an outdoor plaza. Hi, Michele! I have to pinch myself when I say 16 years. It doesn’t seem possible. I spent a Christmas in Hong Kong and loved the decorations. The British influence comes out at Christmas time!
One of the hardest things to get used to when we moved to Texas years ago was the incongruity of cold weather Christmas decorations and it has to be even more surreal in Asia! Looking at some of your photos though, it’s easy to see how the holiday has spread throughout parts of the world – could be Anywhere, USA or Canada! How neat it would be to spend Christmas in Asia one of these days. Love seeing all these trees and decorations. While I’d love to be traveling, we’re actually home during the holidays this year. Merry Christmas to you and Indy!
Hi, Mary. I prefer Asia and the beach at Christmas, but Seoul is good. The weather has been good, and being with Indy is great. Christmas dinner with local expats was fun and delicious!
Except for last year visiting some of the best Christmas markets in Europe we always spend Christmas at home in Perth with our families. I hope the family aren’t reading this as my favourite place was Europe. How could you not like being rugged up, sipping Gluhwein, wandering around looking at amazing wares at the markets? Oh so different to Christmas in Australia.
Hi, Lyn. I arrived in Barcelona on Christmas evening last year. The Christmas market had finished, but it was still wonderful to be in Europe for the holidays. One of these days I will get to the Christmas markets.

We’re spent Christmas in Italy twice now but our favourite place to spend Christmas is Maui, with NYC not far behind.
