Magnificent Monday — Flower Power — Sun Flower Madness

Last Updated on August 30, 2011 by Nancie

This is my contribution to Magnificent Monday, hosted by Jim over at Holes in My Soles…

I love taking shots of flowers, and have quite a little “library” of them. One of my favorite flowers is the cheerful little sunflower, and they are quite common here in Daejeon. Here are a couple of shots from my “Sunflower Madness” Collection.

(Click on the photos to see larger versions.)

This first shot was taken along the river in Daejeon. You can’t see the river because these were on the side facing the road. Now, I say WERE; Korea has a huge river project going on, and rivers in Korea are being revitalized. What that has meant for “my” beautiful sunflowers is that, sadly, they have been mowed under. I remember taking a lot of photos that day I took this one. It was a gorgeous day with a fabulous blue sky. One other thing I also remember is the rat that ran out right in front of me. I have no idea how I didn’t drop the camera!

This second shot is the first sun flower shot I ever took in Korea. The sunflowers were in front of an office building about 3 minutes from my first apartment in Daejeon. This shot was taken with my first digital camera, a Fuji Finepix, which I loved, and is still being used today by a friend of mine.

  1. I’m just trying to imagine having sunflowers in front of office buildings — how cool! Love your shots. I would have definitely dropped the camera when the rat ran out.

  2. It is marvellous to come across a field of sunflowers when travelling. These shots are wonderful. Drove through Romania along fields of sunflowers stretching for miles but photos haven’t turned out well through the bus window.
Even driving though Botswana recently we were surprised to be driving through fields of sunflowers.
I grow a relative- Jerusalem artichoke for the unique tasting edible tubers. The flower head is similar to a sunflower.

  3. The clarity of that 2nd sunflower shot is very good. Sorry to hear they have been mowed.

  4. Beautiful photos! I love sunflowers. I remember taking a train through Tuscany years ago and seeing never-ending fields of them. I wish I had photos to remember it by!

  5. Such great colors in both of these shots! No matter what kind of mood I’m in, sunflowers can always bring a smile to my face.

  6. Oh I so love sunflowers, I grow them every year. I haven’t seen rats, I would freak out, but the squirrels do love to raid them. These are beautiful shots.

  7. Oh! I love sunflowers, too. It’s breathtaking to see a field full of sunflowers in bloom. Great photos, by the way!

  8. Wow ! Beauties, both shots. I don’t know what inspired me but, just posted some flowers on my site. n Tuesday here. Now, you’ve got me wanting to go see if any sunflowers have bounced back here since our last typhoon !

  9. My brother had sunflowers as a theme at his wedding, I absolutely love them. Beautiful pictures, thanks for sharing!
