Wanderfood Wednesday — Avocado Juice

Last Updated on March 31, 2010 by Nancie

Here we are for another edition of Wanderfood Wednesday, kindly hosted by Wanderlust and Lipstick.

Just before leaving for Bali last December I was talking to a friend of mine who told me that if avocados were in season I HAD TO try the Avocado juice. Now, I love avocado, but had never heard of avocado juice. I expected something that looked like apple juice except it would be a greenish color.

My quest began as soon as I arrived in Bali, and I was not to be disappointed. Avocados were in season and readily available throughout the island. My first avocado “juice” (more like a smoothie) also contained chocolate syrup. This gave it a nice hint of sweet, and some restaurants served it with the chocolate, others didn’t. I found out quickly that with the exception of the chocolate the juice/smoothie contains only blended avocados. There are no hidden fillers………..no, water, no yogurt…..nothing. I was impressed.

Avocados contain a lot of fat, good fat, but fat. This meant that I had to contain myself and indulge every third day or so. However, that was okay, I was on a quest to find the most delicious avocado juice in Bali, and I did just that. The prize went to Sari Orgaink in Ubud, which I blogged about here.

They had the absolute best! There was no chocolate, just organic avocados. I thought I was going to die with pleasure. The juice was thick and smooth, and the taste pure and fresh.

If you’re ever in a restaurant that serves avocado juice, INDULGE!

  1. Avocado juice? I can’t imagine! I love avocados in guacamole but I just can’t imagine drinking the juice. Do you think one could make it at home? Hmmm… now I’ll have to go on a quest next time I’m off somewhere exotic. 🙂

    • Stephanie………….If you can buy good avocado where you live, give it a try. All you need is a heavy duty blender (or a juicer). I was told that there are no other ingredients added. Sadly, here in Daejeon it is impossible to get half decent fresh avocado. The one time I bought them they were hard as rock. By the time they ripened they were rotten on the inside.

    • Hi Angela…………….Yes! I eat a lot of raw (not 100%) and these were a dream.

    • Hi Heather………………..yes, a meal for sure. The chocolate was good, but I came to prefer just the straight avocado.
I also like them with mayo.

  3. Hi Sofia,

I was told at two different restaurants that avocado was the only ingredient.

If you make one, let me know how it turns out. Good avocado are impossible to get here in Korea. The only ones available are from Costco and they rot before they ripen…ugh!

  5. Avocado juice is my favourite juice ever! Especially when they put a bit of that chocolate syrup, yummy! When I still lived in Java, there was some time that I was absolutely crazy about this juice, and had to hold myself from buying it everyday.

  7. Hi Dina!

I know what you mean. I could have had one or even two of these a day. I had to contain myself!

[…] I savored every morsel. Along with my dish I had an avocado juice, which I had written about previously here. I will say again, it was the best I had in Bali, and I sampled lots during the month I was […]
