Welcome to another week of Travel Photo Thursday. Friends of mine are in Bali this week, and that got me thinking of the wonderful trips I have had to that beautiful island. This week I want to share with you some of my favorite shots.

On my first trip to Bali, I spent some time at Lake Batur. There were some wonderful photo opportunities.

Sanur Beach is a great walking beach. I stayed just a few minutes walk away.
Or you can relax on one of the pagodas and enjoy the view.

Don’t miss the Bali Bird Park! You can easily spend a day here wandering around admiring and interacting with so many beautiful birds.

You can see a different traditional dance performance every night, if you want to!

Delicious Balinese food…Sambal Udang, made at the Bumi Bali Cooking School in Ubud.

You can wander Ubud’s beautiful rice fields for free.

Your photos are always so colourful Nancie. I know my husband would especially love a day in a bird park and I know I’d have fun taking photos.
Have you any plans to go back to Bali? I can definitely envision a visit one winter.
Hi Leigh! I wouldn’t mind going back to Bali. It’s always a nice relaxing vacation. You know how it is though, so many new places to see 🙂
You did a great job with those bird photos. They are so close up, and I really like how you’ve captured the action in the 1st bird photo. We went to Bali at the end of a whirlwind, multi-country trip and were so exhausted that all we did was sit on the beach.

I have thought of Bali as the ultimate of exotic destinations ever since I watched Balinese dancers at the 1964 New York World’s Fair in New York City. Speaking of that world’s fair, it is one of my “destinations of a lifetime” that I have old pictures of on my Travel Thursday post. Love your photos of Bali, particularly the two parrots–a winner!!

Such beautiful, colourful photos! I’ve not been to Bali but a law school friend just returned from an extended career break with his family in Bali and following along on their adventure made me want to visit – your photos have just reinforced that desire!
Bali, is a great place for an extended break. If I was going to do that I would go to Ubud.

What some gorgeous photos, Nancie. You’ve really captured the vibrancy and colours of Bali. I’ve been three times, the first in 1983 and the third time last year – I’d go every year if I could. It’s so close to Western Australia in distance, and yet worlds apart in culture. Thanks for Travel Photo Thursday as always 🙂
Hi Johanna…It’s hard to get that “much culture” any where else in SEA. I think that’s what makes it so special. I met a lot of Australians the times that I visited.
All of them are great photos, but if I have to choose one I would select the photo with the traditional dancers: I love their expression (^_^)

Gorgeous Nancie. I was there over 30 years ago. We did not go to the bird park, but maybe that was not there then. The bird photos are brilliant, and looking at the ladies waiting with temple offerings took me back there in an instant. Lovely.
Hi Jan…the photo of the ladies is one of my favorites. I’m not sure how long the bird park has been there, but I doubt it’s 30 years old.
It is over 30 years since we have been to Bali, but your Ladies with Temple Offerings took me back in an instant. It truly was a magical place back then and probably still is today. We did not visit the bird park, I don’t think it was around then. Your bird photos are brilliant. I thoroughly enjoyed all of these photos.
I was in Bali with my oldest daughter when she was 4. It was a magical place, Ubud especially. The dancers, the colours, the scents, the naughty monkeys…

Bali has always been high on my travel wish list and these beautiful pictures reinforces that desire. I can see why you keep going back. I’d love to be on one of these beaches right now. Those birds are gorgeous!

Bali is definitely a dream trip of mine. I can’t believe that first shot of the bird–I thought it was piece of art work–and then realized it was a real bird eating a little morsel! Sunset is gorgeous too, and love the surfers mingling…

I adore Bali. I’ve never met another people as content with their way of life as the Balinese. and the countryside is as close to paradise as we can get. Wish it weren’t so far away! thanks for the photos.

Bali has always seemed so exotic to me and is a destination I’d love to visit. The colors of Asia always amaze me. I’d love to wander the beach, watch traditional dance and see the rice fields. Lovely pictures!

Love the Bali Bird Park images, they’re amazing! I’m planning my trip to Bali for next year so will be getting some great snaps of the country myself soon (hopefully!).

Thanks, Matthew! The Bird Park really is worth a visit. It’ easy to spend quite a few hours there. I found the best time was firstthing in the morning, before the afternoon heat.
