Travel Photo Thursday — March 22, 2011 — Favorite Travel Shots of 2011

Last Updated on June 29, 2013 by Nancie

Welcome to another week of Travel Photo Thursday. Still on the cool side, we’ve had fabulous sunshine and blue skies in Daejeon this week. While I was thinking about what to post this week I was browsing through shots in my Flickr account, and realized that I hadn’t posted my favorite shots from 2011. This week I give you a round up of some of my favorite travel photo memories from 2011.

To join in the Travel Photo Thursday fun simply post a photo on your blog. Return here and place your link in the Mr. Linky at the bottom of this post.

Please post a link to a post featuring a travel photo, not simply a link to your blog.

As a courtesy please post a link to Budget Travelers Sandbox.

If you do tweet a shot, please use the hashtag #TPThursday.

Wat Rong Khun – “The White Temple” – Chiang Rai, Thailand

Wat Rong Khun "The White Temple", Chiang Rai, Thailand

This temple is the vision of Thai artist Chalermchai Kositpipat. You will not find another like it in Thailand, or probably Asia. Located in Thailand’s northern most city, Chiang Rai, it’s reported to be the city’s most visited attraction.

I have to say I had never seen anything like it, and wandering around both the grounds and inside the temple was an eye opener.

Hanging Out at the Singapore Zoo

Hanging out at the Singapore Zoo

One of the highlights of my time spent in Singapore in 2011 was the Singapore Zoo. I even paid $25.00 to eat breakfast with the Orangutans, and loved every minute. The buffet breakfast was also delicious and I thought good value for the amount of food available and the quality. If you are staying in a hotel in Singapore,I highly suggest you visit the Singapore Zoo, it is one of the top attractions.

In case you missed my post on the Zoo…you can find it here…Singapore Zoo.

  1. All gorgeous photos, Nancie – and such a great variety of subjects – temples, animals, food, bikes… love the bikes!

  2. All the shots are beautiful but my favourites are the Halifax pics. Can’t wait to get back there this summer even if it’s only for a day!

    • Enjoy Halifax, Lisa. It’s home to me, and I won’t be there this summer. I’m planning another visit in 2013.

  3. […] Last week I came across the travel blog Budget Travelers Sandbox which hosts Travel Photo Thursday (#TPThursday on twitter), and am delighted to join in this week. When you have few minutes to browse, check out host Nancie’s photos and those of others who take part. You’ll see some great photos and visit some wonderful places. The link to this week’s post and links is here. […]

  4. Some FABULOUS shots here! I really like the orangutan, the shadow & light, Korean dancer and the woman with brooms. Agree, that’s a great smile.

  5. Hi: Just wanted to say that I love your round up. It is impossible to pick a favorite with such variety, but I realize it must have been difficult for you to pick favorites out of a whole year of photos, too. (I’ll be back with my Photo Thursday url tomorrow, when it IS Thursday in Arizona.)

  7. Stunning as always. What a great round up of your year. I know how fun it is to wander down memory lane when pulling together a post like this. Hope you had a blast! Can’t wait to see what you choose from 2012 next year 🙂

    • 2011 was a great travel year for me, and it’s continued into 2012 with Spain, and Thailand so far. I’ve also been seeing lots of Korea on the weekends. Also, have a trip to the Czech Republic planned for this summer.

  8. These are great- love the energy and variety. I especially love the back of the ladies heads- I just have so many questions about that shot and the ladies- which is something I love about photography.

  9. oh wow wow wow. What a great selection of pictures from around the world. I can’t choose one as my favourite as there are many.

  10. Fantastic shots…all of them! The first one of the temple in Thailand is just beautiful. And as a huge fan of the Singapore Zoo (especially the night safari), I liked the photo of the orangutan too 🙂

    Thanks for the linkup opportunity!

  11. I can see why that temple gets so many visitors. It is absolutely beautiful. Love the other photos too — you always post such stunning images.

  12. These are beautiful! The baby orangutan is precious. The bikes kind of reminded me of the Netherlands (since that’s where we always biked when I was young) until I saw the Canadian flags 🙂 I remember your post about the lantern festival. Gorgeous!

    • Thanks Sabrina. I loved the time I spent with the orangutans at the Singapore Zoo. This little one was my all time favorite.

  13. We are heading to Singapore in November. You’ve inspired a different dining option with this post and we will definitely visit the Zoo (thanks to you).

  14. Fabulous photos! What a great year you had.
And I loved the White Temple – it was so different from all the others.

  15. What drama and colour in your photos! Its fun but time consuming going back through photos and it makes you realize how far you’ve come with photography – and in my case how much I still have to learn. Great post Nancie.
Just curious since you host your photos on Flickr – do you get much traffic to your blog because of that?

    • Thanks for the kind words Leigh. I’m not so sure that I get a lot of traffic from Flickr to the blog. I have to admit I’m not consistent with linking back from Flickr to the blog. I really should do that more.

  16. […] This is my (almost) weekly contribution to Travel Photo Thursday.  You can see more puzzling, beautiful, exotic and ordinary photos by going to the mother ship–Budget Travelers Sandbox. […]

  17. I always look forward to seeing your gorgeous photos every week, Nancie! This week has got to be my favorite so far because there’s so much variety and a great recap of your year. Love, love the temple, the lanterns and the monkey.

    • Yes, I love the White Temple. I would love to go back there at some point and spend more time with the camera. Sometimes it’s difficult to get good shots
      because of the crowds.

  18. The photos are all really beautiful! I really like the first one of the temple … never seen anything like it and it intrigues me enough to make me want to visit.

    • Cheryl, if you ever have the chance, don’t miss it. Definitely the most unique I’ve seen in Asia, and of course it is gorgeous!

  19. Love these shots! They’re all stunning and meaningful. The pic I like above all is that of the woman carrying the heavy baskets and smiling! Really cute.

  20. These are all such great shots, Nancie, each in their own way — so I can’t even begin to choose a favourite. They’re real Lonely Planet stuff!
