Welcome to another week of Travel Photo Thursday. My time in Chiang Mai and Thailand is quickly coming to an end. This time next week I will be back in Korea getting ready to start a new semester. I’m spending this week revisiting a few favorite places, and exploring new places that may become favorites on another visit. This week I want to share some shots of Chiang Mai’s temple bells.
To join in the Travel Photo Thursday fun simply post a photo on your blog. Return here and place your link in the Mr. Linky at the bottom of this post.
Please post a link to a post featuring a travel photo, not simply a link to your blog.
The Twitter hash tag for Travel Photo Thursday is #TPThursday.

In Buddhist temples in Thailand you will often find bells of bronze or brass hanging from metal or wooden frames. These bell are different from the gong used to wake up monks or announce prayer times. Instead, they are struck by the faithful after the giving of an offering. Many also believe that striking the bell removes spells or can protect a person from evil spirits.
These are the temple bells found at Wat Phan Tao in Chiang Mai’s old city.
Traveler’s Tip…
Due to it’s close proximity to Chiang Mai’s famous Wat Chedi Luang, Wat Phan Tao is also a busy Wat. Best photo opportunities are in the morning; fewer people, nice light.

Love the colours in these close-ups, Nancie.
Thanks, Sophie. I was really pleased with these shots.
I love seeing the close detail – it really adds another dimension to travel photography. Also I have never been to this area, so thank you for taking us there. I have only joined Travel Photo Thursday last week, and I can see my list of “places to go to” growing every week. Thank you for the opportunity to contribute.
Hi Jill, Thanks for your kind words. It’s really nice to have you here contributing~!
I love zooming in to close up detail in words and in pictures, and you have done it so well with the bells and the detail about why devotees strike them.
Hi Johanna! Always trying to find new ways to make shots interesting!

I wish I was there to see these bells in person. To give an offering and hear the sound of the bell.
Jan…book your ticket 🙂
Beautiful! Definitely on my must visit list.
Amy…well worth a visit 🙂
Really love the close up angles, I’ve been trying to change the perspective of my shots lately and I really like this technique!
Thanks, Jade! A different POV can definitely give a travel photo an entirely “new” feel.
Beautiful!
I love photographing bells, but I haven’t tried many close-ups. You just gave me some ideas, thank you! (^_^)
Glad I could help 🙂
Such a good reminder about details. I can’t believe how fast your time in Thailand has gone; it seems much like our time in Hawaii.
Hi Jackie…hard to believe I have been in Thailand over 2 months. I don’t know where the time went!

What a treat to get to view the intricate details of the bells. I’m thinking we may need a smaller version for our home–I like the history behind them!
Kate…They are really pretty and would make a great addition to a house or apartment.
I love the depth of field in these photos!
Thank you, Denise. I always enjoy playing around with DOF!

Very cool photos of the bells. I love the big bells in cathedrals, too. There is something about hearing them ringing or clanking when you’re visiting aplace.
Cathy, there is never a chance of missing the toll of a bell 🙂 I enjoy them too.

Thank you, Becca!
