Canang Sari – Bali Offerings

Last Updated on March 31, 2014 by Nancie

One of the first things you will notice in your travels around Bali are the small colorful baskets of flowers on the sidewalks and roads in front of homes and businesses, and at the temples. Canang Sari are Hindu offerings to the gods. “Sari” means essence, and ‘canang” is the coconut leaf basket that the flowers sit in.

Canang Sari is a daily ritual, except if there has been a recent death in the village. The offering is given daily to express thankfulness to the Hindu god Sang Hyang Widi Wasa.,You will see these offerings literally everywhere in your travels around Bali. Avoid walking on them as you wander down the streets or through a temple compound.
