Instagram Travel Moments
This week I am sharing with you some of my favorite Instagram travel moments from 2016. Welcome to Week 295 (09/29/2016) of Travel Photo Thursday. I didn’t take that many Instagram photos in 2015. My iPhone 4S has a weak battery, and even though I have a portable power pack my phone and the power pack often “die” when I’m out and about with my iPhone. However, I still managed to have some sweet Instagram moments in 2016. Please, enjoy. These shots are in no particular order.

Instagram Travel Moments
Luckett Vineyards
Located in Wolfville, Nova Scotia, the vineyard is owned by Pete Luckett. Pete is a Brit who came to Halifax many years ago and opened a fruit and vegetable stand, called Pete’s Frootique. He became well known for a weekly fruit and vegetable segment that he did on a local news show. Each week he would introduce Haligonians to some strange (or so it seemed) fruit or vegetable. The novelty of the food plus his wicked sense of humor made him hugely popular. Now he has moved onto the wine business, and his vineyard is one of the most popular lunch venues in the Annapolis Valley. It’s easy to see why when you’re gazing out onto picture perfect view. The food and the wine are excellent too!
North West Arm, Halifax, Nova Scotia
Taken from the shore of Sir Flemming Sanford Park, or if you’re a local, the Dingle. It’s a favorite place to picnic and watch boats go in and out. There’s also a historic tower, and the views from the top are worth the climb. Opening hours for the tower seem to be iffy. On my last two visits to Halifax, it was closed.
Maple Ridge, British Columbia
My friends have a hobby farm in the Vancouver suburbs. Behind the farm is a dyke and now a walking/running/biking park, complete with stunning sunsets.
Mount Baker, Washington State
I spend as much time in Washington State as I do in Vancouver. I’ve come to love Mount Baker, and it’s always a treat to drive up the Mount Baker Highway.
Portuguese Tostas
I fell in love with delicious tostadas and toastas in Spain and Portugal. These yummy sandwiches are one of the that I enjoyed in Portugal so much!. Don’t even think of passing by one of these if you are in either country! This shot is one of my favorite Instagram Travel Moments of 2016.
Albufeira Beach Sunset, Algarve, Portugal
Alvor Yacht Club
There are so many coastal towns in the Algarve, and Alvor is one of my favorites. This was my view while enjoying a delicious lunch.
Grilled Octopus (Alvor, Portugal)
Who would have thought that only grilling fresh octopus and potatoes in olive oil would result in such deliciousness? My taste buds were in overdrive!
Porto in the Rain
The silver lining to my rainy, foggy stay in beautiful Porto and one of my favorite shots from my time in the city.
Jeronimo’s Monastery, Lisbon
The refractory in Jeronimos Monastery, designed by Leonardo DaVinci in the 16th Century. If you want to save a bit of money, visit on the free Sunday (once a month). Be warned, the lineups are long. Double check with the tourist information regarding which Sunday is free.

I finally joined instagram this summer. Yesterday I posted my 100th photo. Nice mix from your instagram!
Hi Sharon. I like Instagram a lot. What I like about it is the instant part. For me, that’s what it’s all about. I don’t plan my photos, or tweak them too much. If I’m connected when I take the photo I publish it immediately. If I’m not connected then it gets published as soon as I am connected. Congrats on the 100th photo!
Oh, I love this. And I’m wondering why I don’t follow you on Instagram – will remedy that right now! My favorites are the food photos – that sandwich looks to die for.
I enjoyed this collection immensely. I remember your sodden time in Porto and that photo really sets the scene. That type of rain especially when consistent puts a dampener on things. The Algarve looks amazing, especially your lunch view of boats.
Hi Jan! Thanks! I like Porto, but I have to say that when I go back it won’t be in February (at least if I can help it). The rain was pretty much constant, and it was cold! I enjoyed my time in the Algarve. It wasn’t hot, but no constant rain.
Alvor Yacht Club in Portugal looks very tranquil and immediately caught my eye. I love Instagram photos. I can spend hours devouring other people’s travel photos on Instagram. It is my favourite social media platform. Thanks for these lovely photos. 🙂
Hi Kathy. I love the village/town of Alvor. In addition to the great ocean views, there’s a lovely and long walkway that goes out onto a marsh. I’d like to go back again sometime and so some more exploring.
So many memories on those photos! I feel like visiting Halifax, Washington and Portugal. When I visited Spain, I didn’t try the tostadas. I am not sure why I missed those. Promise I will try them next time.
Hi Ruth! The tostadas aren’t exactly easy on the diet. I think you’d be okay though. Like me, I think you walk a lot. It only takes one to fall in love! 🙂
I love this collection Nancie and someday I should try that with my Instagram photos (I have such a small following there, that I often forget about it of course there could be a cause and effect in that statement, right? 😉 ) We are still getting settled in to life in Greece so hope to get back on schedule with the blog and postings. . .as always, love #TPThursday!
Hi Jackie! I like Instagram, especially when I have a half decent phone to take photos with. My trusty Iphone 4S will be retired soon. I’m following your adventures on FB. I was so happy to see that Princess didn’t waste any time on getting home!!! 🙂

Hi Rhonda! I loved everything about Portugal (well, a little less rain in Porto would have been nice). I had planned to return this winter, but it looks like I will be doing a Staycation in Seoul. I bought a condo in Nova Scotia, which closes next summer. The money only stretches so far. Within the next couple of years my plan is to spend 6 months in Nova Scotia (I want to get my Cdn residency back), and 6 months somewhere else. There’s a good chance that will be Portugal.
Exciting option. If you consider southern hemisphere for the other six months you can follow spring and summer 🙂
I haven’t been to any of these places. I really like that Pete would introduce Haligonians to a new fruit each week. People don’t necessarily have to travel to experience new things, do they? That Portuguese torte looks positively delicious. (I have the same drained battery problem as you.)
This is a great way to look back over your year. I love the foggy rain image of Paris. Your tostadas look like our “toasted ham and cheese”. A simple snack lunch. Yum. Have a fabulous week.
A nice mix of travel and food! The Sir Flemming Sanford Park in Halifax particularly caught my eye. I need to visit the east coast again!
Nice to discover you. I certainly enjoy your images…. We loved Portugal, and lived there for a few months…we had thought we would love Spain, given that we both speak Spanish, but it was Portugal that captured our hearts the most!
