Welcome to week 246 of Travel Photo Thursday. Apologies that this post is so late, and that I haven’t been around much to comment or visit your sites. I finally got my computer back on Tuesday. While it is working, there are still some issues that I am trying to resolve with the computer tech. I can’t wait for things to get back to normal. In the meantime I want to share some of my Budapest favorite photo memories.

Hungary’s amazing parliament buildings. Free tours are available. Unfortunately, on the day I visited, they were closed due to visiting dignitaries. If I did need a reason to return, this would be it.

The Great Market Hall is one of my favorites! Delicious lunch offerings and souvenirs on the second floor. As you can see the fruit and produce is over the top gorgeous. My suitcase was full of Fois Grais when I left. What a great treat that was on chilly Korean evenings, and oh was it good! The tram ride to the market offers up beautiful scenery along the river.

Have you been to Budapest? Is it on your bucket list? I definitely want to go back. While I was in the city I learned that the country has a thriving wine industry. I tried some of their wines and it was amazingly good. Now, I want to visit the vineyards. Timing is such a funny thing – just as your site came up, the news was reporting that Hungary was using water cannons and tear gas against the refugees trying to move through their country to more friendly places like Germany and Sweden. At that moment it went off my potential travel list for next year’s travel. So it was nice of you to provide some lovely pictures in exchange!
Hi Cindy. I was sad and horrified to learn Hungary’s actions with the refugees. I have such fond memories of Budapest. I can understand why you would be reluctant to travel there anytime soon.

I didn’t realize you had been to Budapest Nancie. When did that happen? That is a gorgeous sunset. The Parliament Buildings are huge!
Hi Jan. I spent 5 days there back in 2012. I took the bus up from Prague. Knowing how lazy my blogging can be sometimes, I can’t even remember how much I blogged about it. However, I did love my time there. I think I have read somewhere that the Parliament Buildings are the largest in the world (or at least in Europe).

Budapest is such an amazing city and easy to walk to all the main attractions, thanks for letting me revisit some of these lovely places.

Hi Ruth. I did enjoy the food. It’s ‘stick to your ribs’ kind of fare. Think potatoes, and lots of carbs. The flavors are amazing.
I have never been but have only heard wonderful things about Budapest. Someday!

I was in Budapest back in the 80’s and would love to visit it again, but I won’t go till they figure out how to treat refugees humanely. Thanks for giving me such a pretty glimpse of it in the meantime!

Budapest ranks high on our bucket list with its fascinating history and beautiful buildings. Loved all your photos but the views from the Buda side are amazing!

I miss Budapest very much! But Hungary’s present far-right policies are making it relatively easy for me to not go there in the near future.

That photo of the buildings silhouetted against the sunset is so striking. I’ve never been to Budapest, but my husband goes there a couple times a year on business. He usually has a free weekend and gets to explore the city. It looks like such a beautiful place. I’d really love to go along with him and walk around it myself.
