Delicious vegetarian food!
Delicious vegetarian food!

This was my second visit to this lovely, quaint organic bistro. I did a quick review of my first visit on Trip Advisor. I think it’s time for a more in-depth review.

This was a totally impromptu visit. I was in the neighborhood looking for something else not even related to food, and voila!…there it was. After the delicious meal I had there last year, how could I resist? The restaurant is not only organic, but vegetarian. For all you vegetarians roaming around Chiang Mai, this is a very good choice!

The restaurant is warm and inviting with friendly staff. They offer free WiFi, so you can entertain yourself while you wait for your food. Of course if you are dining with someone else this is a perfect opportunity to catch up! All food is prepared as ordered, so be prepared for a bit of a wait. Although, the day that I was there my food arrived quite quickly.

Now, of course what you’ve all been waiting for; THE FOOD…

Like most Thai restaurants, the menu here is rather large. Making a decision was not easy, and I have to admit my eyes were bigger than my stomach!

The gac and pineapple juice, listed on the chalk board menu, immediately piqued my interest. Gac is a fruit grown in SEA and Australian Apparently, it contains huge concentrations of beta-carotene and lycopene. Plus, it’s delicious on it’s own or mixed with pineapple.

Healthy and delicious!

Then, it was on to the appetizer. I chose the fried tempeh with tamarind sauce, and I was not disappointed. The sauce was tart with a hint of sweet, and the tempeh was nice and crispy.

Sweet and sour...mmm

For the main course, I could not resist the potato and tofu massaman curry with chapati. I was not disappointed. The curry was just sweet enough with being overpowering. The potato and tofu complemented each other nicely. The chapati was baked perfectly, crisp but not hard, and a perfect complement to the plate.

Highly recommended!

No desert to report 🙂

Loved the entire meal from start to finish. Staff seemed very limited, but the lady that was running around like crazy between the kitchen and the dining room never stopped smiling. Cost: 175baht ($5.30US/CDN)

  1. I’m sorry we didn’t find this restaurant. I’m by no means a vegetarian, but I find that more often, I’m making vegetarian choices. That appetizer looks like it was quite tasty and if the massaman curry wasn’t too hot, I would have enjoyed that.

    • Hi Suzanne! I’m not a vegetarian either, but since moving to Asia I find that more and more I opt for vegetarian choices. The massaman curry is on the sweet side, rather than spicy. I think you would have liked it.

  2. Coincidentally, my post this week is on tamarind. My mouth immediately began to salivate as soon as I read about the fried tempeh with tamarind sauce. I could have some right now.
I’m not vegetarian either but I could enjoy the food at this Organic Bistro. A real find, Nancie! Thailand’s food is calling me — one of these days I’ll have to answer.

Thanks for linking up this week.

    • Hi Marcia. I read your post, and loved the sound of your recipe. I love tamarind. I tried to leave you a comment, but could not. If I remember correctly, I kept getting some weird message about a captcha code. I could not find that. Then, I tried to email you and the email was returned…whew! You can see that I didn’t intentionally post my link and run! 🙂

  3. Thanks for this post and information. Actually I am a vegetarian and I love it so much but sometimes I face the problem with food in many restaurants for vegan food during my tour which makes me sad. Thanks a lot I got to know about this restaurant where vegan food is served. Whenever I get any chance to go there for sure I’ll go to this restaurant.
