Imagine my excitement when I learned earlier this week that photographer Steve McCurry is exhibiting his photos at the Sejong Centre in downtown Seoul. I attended the exhibit yesterday, and I was awestruck. Anyone who is in Seoul, or visiting Seoul between now and May 30, 2010 needs to add Steve McCurry’s “Unguarded Moment” to their “MUST SEE” list. You will be treated to over 100 of McCurry’s photographs from Afghanistan, India, Tibet, and New York City. Each photo is presented in an over sized, framed, poster format. The details are amazing. You can also browse and purchase his work online here.
For anyone who doesn’t know, Steve McCurry is the National Geographic photographer who became famous with his 1984 photograph of the “Afghan Girl” (pictured above). Steve and National Geographic reconnected with her again in 2002. Her name is Sharbat Gula, and you can read more about her here (Sharbat Gula). The documentary of Steve’s search for Shabat is also on online here. I have watched it twice now!
Whether you’re living in Seoul or visiting don’t miss the “Unguarded Moment”. Admission is 8,000 Korean Won (approximately $8US). You can find out how to get to the Sejong Center here.
This is an exhibit that fits into any travelers budget.
If you like this post, a retweet or a stumble would be most appreciated!

WOW! I will definitely go there if I’m in Korea (but unfortunately very sure I won’t make it there that soon). ‘m very familiar with the face of the Afghan Girl, and I just checked the gallery of his website you mentioned, the photographs are stunning!

@ Dina….Sometimes these kinds of exhibits do a tour of Asia. You never know maybe it will end up in another Asian city after Seoul.
Thanks for dropping by.

I’ll open my eyes for that!
