Last Saturday was my birthday, and I spent the weekend with friends at Daecheon Beach on the western coast of Korea. Saturday was perfect beach weather, and the day ended with this gorgeous sunset.
(Click on the photo to view a larger version.)
Daecheon beach is also home to the famous Boryeong Mud Festival. Every July thousands gather to wallow in the beaches’s famous mud. Rumor has it that the mud has special qualities that will give you the glowing skin you’ve always wanted. If you’re ever in Korea in July, get muddy! While accommodation at Daecheon Beach can be a little pricey, budget travelers will be happy to know that the festival is FREE.

Gorgeous! My favorite time of day to be at the beaach!
What a gorgeous shot. Not the numbers of people on the beach that I usually associate with Korea.
A mud festival – only if its good for the skin.
Happy belated birthday, Nancie! That must be a good sign to have such a spectacular sunset on your special day. Beautiful!
Not sure about getting muddy, but the beach looks good 🙂
Absolutely gorgeous!
Beautiful sunset.
Will try to join Travel Photo Thursday next Thursday 🙂
Happy late birthday. The photo is lovely; looks like a painting almost.
Stunning sunset. I’d love to get muddy there. Also, happy belated birthday!
Beautiful. Nothing like a sunset over a beach. I’m not so sure about all that mud though!
Gorgeous sunset! It’s almost like it’s on fire!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY !
This beauty of a sunset makes me want to leave my island and come to Korea. Groan. Rainy season here !
Great photo! The sunset is beautiful!
Beautiful photo! I’ve heard about the Boryeong Mud Festival, but wasn’t there in July, sound like such a unique festival and you come out with glowing skin, I like it!
Beautiful picture! The colors are very warm and comforting.
Wow, What glorious colors in that sunset! There’s even a bit of pink in there! Amazing!
Happy belated wishes – I hope you had a lovely day. That sunset is awesome. It must have been stunning to watch it go down. Did you roll in the mud to get a shiny skin? Wondering if it works and how much a person can glow after getting muddy. Best wishes for this new year.
Just got to love that “Free” stuff! By the way, beautiful sunset!
What a beautiful sunset! It’s been a long time since I have seen one like that!
Beautiful! I’m a sucker for sunsets! 🙂
And I’m a sucker for mud! Great photo… 🙂
