On The Road Photo Essay

Last Updated on July 29, 2016 by Nancie

I’ve been on the road since last Thursday, and have been unplugged for about 90% of the time, and loving it! Welcome to Week 288 of Travel Photo Thursday. The camera has not been working overtime, either. That being said, here are a few of my favorite shots of the past week.

We’re pretty easy going here at BTS, but please remember to follow a few guidelines…

To join in the Travel Photo Thursday fun simply post a photo on your blog.

Return here and place your link in the Mr. Linky at the bottom of this post.

Please post a link to a post featuring a travel photo, not simply a link to your blog.

Leave a comment before you go. I do read each and every one, and always try to respond.

The Twitter hashtag for Travel Photo Thursday is #TPThursday.

Approaching Vancouver International Airport

I arrived in Vancouver at noon hour to brilliant sunshine. I took these two shots on our approach to the Vancouver International Airport. The weather has magnificent since I’ve arrived.

I spent the night in Vancouver, and the next morning we were on the road heading to my friend’s summer trailer close to Mount Baker in Washington State. On Sunday we followed the Mount Baker Highway, winding our way to “Artist’s Way” at the top of Mount Baker. The hair pin curves kept us alert, and sitting on the edge of our seats as we admired the beauty heading towards the 8700 foot elevation, and again on the meander back down.

Mount Baker is a popular weekend ski destination during the winter months. In the summer time there are many trails to explore. The last time I was there, 3 years ago, we were not able to get beyond the ski lift area. Luckily this year, the gate was open, and we were able to drive to the final parking lot. As you saw from the photos there is quite a bit of snow at the highest elevation, so it’s probably a good idea to wear footwear with traction if you plan on hiking. Lots of people were using walking poles, too.

    • Hi Jan! Mount Baker was super relaxing. I could not have asked for better weather in either spot, and now the good stuff has followed me to Nova Scotia!

  1. Oh here you are in Washington State and I’ve been on the road the other direction (Central Washington) as I have had back to back deadlines for articles from there (not complaining, just need to rethink my scheduling for future writing endeavors). Any chance you are heading anywhere south towards Kirkland?

  2. The Pacific Northwest is an area so full of magic. I have been to Vancouver and love the city. A coworker just return from a camping trip thru the Northern Cascades. His photo are as amazing as your. I have to make an effort to visit this area during summer.

  3. Wow…those photos of Mt Baker are amazing. I love looking at snow-capped mountains with lakes. It just looks so serene. I hope you enjoy the rest of your trip as you make your way home. Safe travels!

    • Hi Mary! I love Mt. Baker and Washington State. The good weather is following me everywhere. Arrived in Nova Scotia yesterday, and the sun is shining!

  4. In May we traveled from Vancouver to San Francisco, but avoided all snow 🙂 It is a stunning area and you captured it so well.

    • Hi Kathy! I think I am the weather fairy…hehe. I brought the sun to Vancouver/Washington State, and now to Nova Scotia!

  5. We were in Washington and Montana last fall and your lovely photos of the snow-capped mountains and lakes had me remembering all of the fantastic landscapes we saw. Too bad I didn’t fully appreciate it during the years we lived there and focused instead on the cold winters! P.S. And what good luck to find a CLEAN plane window to shoot your great high-flying shots!

  6. Hi Anita! It is beautiful country, but the winters would get me too. Nova Scotia also has miserable winters, and I don’t miss them one bit. Yes, I was amazed that the windows were so clean, and those shots were taken with my aging iphone!
