If you’re visiting Prague, and want to wander further afield, I highly recommend that you visit Karlovy Vary (Carlsbad). This small city offers superb architecture, world class spa facilities, and some great restaurant choices. The city boast thirteen major hot springs’ along with some 300 smaller springs. Comfortable, reasonably priced, buses depart daily for the short trip between the two cities (slightly more than an hour). While it’s possible to do a day trip, if you want to enjoy a spa treatment, at least two days would be best. Have a peek of my favorite shots from my 2012 visit.Travel Back Saturday Archives

The ancient temples of Siem Reap’s Angkor Wat is another destination that I have had the good fortune of visiting not once but twice. Those trips were before this blog became a reality. From the sunsets to the windows, trees, and ancient doorways, I loved it all, and would return in a moment.

The winter of 2004 saw me ticking off a major bucket list travel destination…EGYPT. Cashing in all of my frequent flyer points, and then some, I flew Singapore Air Business Class. I have never felt so special on an airplane, and I would do that flight all over again, without a moments hesitation. The Cairo Museum, the Sphinx, the Pyramids, and Luxor are just a few of the high moments of my trip. Here are a few of my favorite photos from that adventure.

In 2007, long before I started penning this blog, I spent a winter traveling through South East Asia with a Canadian friend. She figured that this might be her only opportunity to experience this part of the world, and was eager to see as much as possible. We spent about 10 days in Vietnam, between Hanoi and Ho Chi Min City. We did manage to take some day trips into rural Vietnam, and it was on one trip that I was fortunate to snap this beautiful photo. This lovely lady had such an awesome smile and she seemed to be as happy as the smile she wore. This is a favorite photo, and one that inspires me to never stop traveling.

If you think trains are romantic, a visit to the Tatamagouche Train Station Inn in historic Tatmagouche, Nova Scotia is a must. The historic B & B offers the opportunity to eat, sleep, and drink in any number of refurbished CN rail cars. The last time I was home I went on a road trip with a friend. While we didn’t stay at the Inn we did take the time to wander the grounds, and enjoy a fab lunch in the dining car.

Yes, this could be your home away from home…
Can you hear the conductor shouting…ALL ABOARD! ?
I have so many great photos that never seem to see the light of day that I have decided to start a new weekly feature here at Budget Travel Sandbox. My first “Travel Back Saturday” features Prague, a city I came to love during the month I spent there a couple of years ago.
This first shot, showcasing Prague’s show stopping historic architecture, was taken from popular Kampa Island. The island is easily accessible from Prague’s historic Charles Bridge in Malá Strana(the Lesser Town). Did you know that in 2011 Kampa Island was voted the second most romantic island in the world?
In this photo, to the very left, is the entrance to the Charles Bridge.
