Penang Photos

This week I am sharing with Penang photos from my 2014 visit. Welcome to week 272 (4/7/2015) of Travel Photo Thursday. I’m buried in essays and quizzes and trying to stay healthy. Cold and flu are making the rounds in my classes, and the faculty lounge. Whether or not I manage to dodge one, or both remains to be seen. I have to say that travel is the furthest thing from my mind now. I can’t remember the last time I said or thought those words! Enjoy this selection of Penang photos.

I was in Penang during ghost month, so there was a lot happening at both the private and public temples, plus the Georgetown Festival.

There was incense everywhere!

Penang’s Quirky Street Art for Travel Photo Thursday…

This Travel Photo Thursday I want to introduce you to some of Penang’s quirky street art, found in historic Georgetown. Welcome to our 198th week.I hope you have as much fun looking at this art, as I did taking the photos. So often when I was taking these shots I would just stand back and say WHY. Then I would let my imagination run away.

You can check out more Penang street art HERE.

All of these shots were taken when I was wandering the streets of downtown Georgetown with camera in hand. There is definitely a photo behind every corner in Georgetown, and many of them are on the walls of the area’s oldest buildings. The best quirky street art I found was when I just let my feet guide me.

So, what exactly are these two doing? Look to the left under the umbrella and you’ll the word “polis” peaking out. Is this a suggestion that they should be called, or were they lounging hidden away under the umbrella taking a breather from the midday sun? 🙂 The man seems to really want that bucket!

Penang Butterfly Farm for Travel Photo Thursday…

Welcome to the 197th week of Travel Photo Thursday. Last week we were at the Tropical Fruit Farm, this week we’re hanging with the butterflies. Let me tell you, fruit is so much easier to photograph than butterflies!

The Butterfly farm is along the same route as the Tropical Fruit Farm, but not as far. If you are traveling by public transport, the 101 bus will take you almost to the door. Just ask the driver to let you off.

A friendly welcome…

Travel Photo Thursday – 10/09/14 – Penang: Tropical Fruit Farm

Posted by on Oct 9, 2014 in Destinations, Featured, Food, Malaysia, Penang, Travel Photo Thursday | 42 comments

Welcome to the 196th week of Travel Photo Thursday. You know this weekly blog link up is more reliable than my Internet connection! I have been, once again, with spotty service today. Fingers crossed that I am not going to kicked off before I get this post finished and published.

I don’t remember Penang’s Tropical Fruit Farm from my previous visits. However, I’m pleased to say that it is a great way to spend a morning or afternoon. The guides are knowledgeable, and after learning about the fruit (and a few nuts), visitors sit and feast on unlimited fresh fruit! I was in Penang during fruit season, so it was cheap and plentiful.  Here’s the farm…

The Tropical Fruit Farm is located in the vicinity of Batu Ferringhi. If you have a car, easy to get there. If you’re relying on public transportation, it’s a little trickier, but doable. I’ll give you all the details at the end.

The first fruit we were introduced to was the Bengal currant. I took photos of most of the signs, because I knew that I would not remember all of this stuff! The currants intrigued me, because they had been in a dish that I had eaten a few days earlier. At that time, I had no idea what they were, but I liked the combination of tart and sweet.
